Maoists surrounded Nepali Congress campaigners in Khotang

Maoist cadres in Dandagaun disrupted an election rally of Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for Khotang-2, Shiva Kumar Basnet, and held all the campaigners, including Basnet, captive.

Khotang, Mar 25 : Maoist cadres in Dandagaun disrupted an election rally of Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for Khotang-2, Shiva Kumar Basnet, and held all the campaigners, including Basnet, captive.

The Maoist activists led by their District secretary Prithvi, allegedly chased away the rallyists, vandalized the stage and took the program venue under their control.

"Police have provided security to Basnet, but the Maoists have surrounded all the NC campaigners at Mahendrodaya High School," ekantipur.com quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Dipak Thapa as saying.

The Maoists have disrupted several election rallies of other parties in the District. They disrupted a People's Front Nepal rally at Badahare and attempted to disrupt an NC rally at Kubhinde and an UML rally at Phaktang.

The Nepali Congress central office has strongly condemned the Maoist action and demanded immediate release of Basnet.
