A survey conducted in tribal areas of Pakistan by an NGO, Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP), revealed that only 17 per cent of tribesmen are in favour of armed jihad whereas 57 per cent are against armed jihad. The rest 50 per cent say that Shariah can bring peace to the Tribal Areas.

Lahore, Mar 21 : A survey conducted in tribal areas of Pakistan by an NGO, Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP), revealed that only 17 per cent of tribesmen are in favour of armed jihad whereas 57 per cent are against armed jihad. The rest 50 per cent say that Shariah can bring peace to the Tribal Areas.

The Daily Times reported that according to the survey, 50 per cent of the tribesmen were willing to allow political parties to function in their areas and 44 per cent are not ready to permit the activities of political parties because they fear that the arrival of political parties will aggravate the already volatile law and order situation.

The survey was conducted among 1,000 people, 150 each from the seven agencies that comprise the Tribal Areas which included women and illiterate people.

The survey revealed that 83 per cent of the tribals believed that they should be allowed to carry weapons to ensure their safety.
