London, Mar.20 : The Prince of Wales, Charles, has agreed to meet the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, in a bid to offer a solution to the diplomatic row over China's treatment of Tibet.
Clarence House said that the Prince would hold a meeting with the Dalai Lama in May.
The Telegraph quoted Paddy Harverson, the communications director at Clarence House, as saying that: "For many years the Prince has been concerned about the situation of the people in Tibet. He has met the Dalai Lama on several occasions and has been greatly impressed by his spiritual leadership."
There was no immediate response from China, whose senior official in Tibet had earlier called the Dalai Lama "a wolf in monk's robes".
Gordon Brown announced yesterday that he too would meet the exiled leader. Brown told the Commons that he had spoken to Wen Jiabao, the prime minister of China, and made it clear there had to be an end to the violence.
Analysts said the move by the Prime Minister could have economic repercussions. he Prince was given clearance to meet the Dalai Lama by Downing Street and the Foreign OfficeThe decision of Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, to meet the Dalai Lama last year led to a four-month chill in relations between the countries.
