Islamabad, Mar 20 : President Pervez Musharraf has said that Pakistan in order to ensure peace will maintain a 'minimum deterrence strategy' and never compromise on its nuclear programme.
"Pakistan's minimum deterrence strategy is a must for peace. We shall never compromise on our nuclear programme," he told the participants of a National Defence and Armed Forces War Course at the National Defence University (NDU).
Emphasising that peace can only be ensured through a position of strength; Musharraf said weakness always invited aggression.
He said the nation must unite to eliminate the twin menaces of extremism and terrorism, as they were making the nation weaker.
Speaking highly of Pakistan's geo-strategic relevance, Musharraf said it could not be undermined, adding that it should be developed as a trade and energy corridor. This would provide more leverage to Pakistan geo-politically, he added.
Musharraf said that the media was at the forefront of image building in Pakistan, adding that it should project the economic rise and potential of Pakistan worldwide.
He said Pakistan had gained economic strength during the last five years and its economic upsurge must continue, the Daily Times reported.
