Islamabad, Mar 19 : Coalition partners forming the next Government in Pakistan plan to apply power-sharing formula to form the federal cabinet.PML-N leader Nisar Ali Khan told reporters here after a joint meeting of coalition parties that: "We announce that the composition of the cabinet would be based on the strength of the parties in the National Assembly and the Senate."

"Around 20 members would be introduced in the first phase of cabinet formation, and its size would be reduced as compared to the previous cabinet headed by former Prime Minister Saukat Aziz," The Daily Times quoted him, as saying.

"In the legislature's standing committees, opposition parties will be offered top slots, which the previous government had ignored and on the distribution of key ministries such as Foreign Affairs and Finance, the prime minister would have the prerogative to decide," he added.

Senate opposition leader Raza Rabbani told reporters that the incoming Government would form all constitutional institutions, including the National Finance Commission (NFC) and the Council of Common Interest (CCI).

The cabinet's composition would include 10 members of the PPP, eight of the PML-N, and one each from the JUI-F and the NP. The approximate total strength of the cabinet would be 45 members, according to the sources. The cabinet would be announced in two or three phrases, they added.
