Islamabad, Mar 18 : At a dinner for party ticket-holders, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) chief Nawaz Sharif said the new government would take back the power of dissolving parliament from President Pervez Musharraf.
"Under Article 58(2b) of the Constitution, Musharraf is vested with the power of dissolving the parliament. He is incharge of the National Security Council. The new government will seize the power he has got under the 17 Amendment," Daily Times quoted Sharif as saying.
He reiterated his promise to restore the judges sacked on November 3 within 30 days of the formation of the new government. "The restoration of the judiciary will stop the way of martial law forever and the judges could be restored by an executive order," he said.
Sharif added, "President Musharraf's two or three close aides were hatching conspiracies against democracy. If the president dissolved the National Assembly, his party would win double the seats they won in the February 18 elections. President Musharraf was required to indemnify his Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) from parliament, which he would never succeed in."
According to him it would be a defining moment in Pakistan history as the dictatorship is on the verge of collapse.
He congratulated the newly elected party members and asked them to raise their voices for an independent judiciary and make pro-people laws.
