Fahmida Mirza to become first woman Speaker of Pakistan National Assembly

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Tuesday nominated Fahmida Mirza for the post of Speaker of National Assembly. She will be the first woman to hold this post in the country.

Islamabad, Mar 18 : The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Tuesday nominated Fahmida Mirza for the post of Speaker of National Assembly. She will be the first woman to hold this post in the country.

Fifty-one-year-old Mirza, a medical graduate, is likely to win the contest for the post as the PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam have a majority in the National Assembly.

Faisal Karim Kundi will be the candidate for the post Deputy Speaker of the lower house of Parliament in Pakistan.

Polling for the posts will be held through secret ballot at 11 AM tomorrow and the new Speaker will take charge as custodian of the House the same day.
