London, Mar 17 : A pupil at Torquay Grammar School has admitted that her 18th birthday party got a 'bit out of hand' when 700 people gate-crashed it.
Sarah Ruscoe had expected just 300 guests at her parent's 21-bedroom manor house but the event turned out to be a disaster after the celebrations were announced on BBC Radio 1.
The problem emerged when one of the guests contacted the Radio 1 DJ, Pete Tong, and requested him to encourage many more partygoers to join the party.
Rebecca Brooks, Sarah's mother, has threatened to take a legal action against BBC after the guests caused thousands of pounds of damage to Colehayes Park, which sits in 20 acres of grounds near Bovey Tracey, Devon.
The unexpected callers destroyed furniture, smashed windows and mirrors and swung on the chandeliers leading to repairs at the Grade 11 listed building to cost around 3,000 pounds.
"I saw people swinging off the crystal chandelier and pulling it off the ceiling. There was even a streaker, a bloke, running around. It was mad," The Telegraph quoted one guest, Luke Flegg, as saying.
Cops were called as the chaos took its toll and they used dogs to disperse the teenagers, but were pelted with glass.
Sarah, who donned a dominatrix at her birthday part, spent the weekend with her family cleaning the house.
''There was a line of headlights up our drive and that was when I knew how 'out of hand' it really had become. Nobody in the house could move," she added.
"Everybody had to leave. By roughly 10:30pm the crowd managed to make its way to Bovey Tracey, leaving a trail of destruction," she added.
Brooks described BBC as 'totally negligent' for allowing a statement about the party to be broadcast.
''There are so many kids around with nothing to do on a Friday night, so when they hear there's about to be a big party on the radio they're going to go," she said."It was terrifying, absolutely terrifying; it looked as if we had a rock festival here," she added.
Brooks' husband, Bill said: "They were acting like animals and I'm surprised no one was killed. We tried to ask people to leave but it was of no use. As we drove them out of one room they just went into another."
A BBC spokesman said: "Pete [Tong] did not specify the name or address of the venue but read out details of a mansion party taking place in Bovey Tracey sent in by a listener.''He gives 'shout-outs' on his show every week - listeners are familiar with this format - and he would never willingly give an identifiable address of a private party," he added.
