Zardari culture and Lyari toughies dominate PPP affairs

The exit of former premier Benazir Bhutto from Pakistan and PPP politics has ushered in a new culture, a culture that is essentially feudal backed by toughies from Sindhs Lyari region.

Islamabad, Mar 17 : The exit of former premier Benazir Bhutto from Pakistan and PPP politics has ushered in a new culture, a culture that is essentially feudal backed by toughies from Sindh's Lyari region.

Party meetings are now held at Zardari House instead of the PPP Secretariat, which now bears a haunted look.

Security at the gate of Zardari House is not only very rude to the party stalwarts, but also to the media.

Recently some reporters lodged a complaint with Zardari about incidents of manhandling by security staff. The entire security staff has since been changed.

Party sources say that they do not know who appointed these security personnel, most of whom have been brought to Islamabad from Lyari and Karachi. Over 50 of them have been lodged in one of the guest houses near Zardari House.

About a dozen armed guards are equipped with modern weapons and are said to be men of Zulfiqar Mirza, Zardari's college friend, reports The News.

In place of Nahid Khan, who worked with Benazir Bhutto for over a quarter of a century, there are two ladies Rukhsana Bangash and Fauzia Habib looking after Zardari's political affairs of Asif Ali Zardari.
