Sherry tipped to be next foreign minister of Pakistan

PPP information secretary and former journalist Sherry Rehman, who is considered close to the Zardari-Bhutto family, is seen as the front runner for the cabinet berth of foreign minister in the new PPP-PML-N alliance federal government.

Islamabad, Mar 17 : PPP information secretary and former journalist Sherry Rehman, who is considered close to the Zardari-Bhutto family, is seen as the front runner for the cabinet berth of foreign minister in the new PPP-PML-N alliance federal government.

Sherry, an MNA-elect, was sent by PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari to Washington after Benazir Bhutto's assassination to meet diplomats and members of the Bush administration to explain her party's position on various issues.

This indicated the level of confidence that Zardari has in her abilities to handle such matters. She also served as a member of the last National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Relations, reported the Daily Times.

According to the paper, Sherry is also interested in the FM slot rather than running the Information Ministry, which she was earlier tipped to get.

Meanwhile, another senior PPP leader former foreign minister and MNA-elect Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali is also being considered for the next foreign minister slot.

Ali is said to be very keen on it again. To his credit, he defeated Khurshid Kasuri, the former PMLQ FM of Pakistan, in the February 18 elections, added the paper.
