Fahims contacting coalition partners highlights differences within PPP

Differences between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Zardari and Vice Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim surfaced on Friday as the latter began contacting the partys coalition partners individually to secure support for his bid to become Pakistans next Prime Minister.

Islamabad, Mar 15 : Differences between Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Zardari and Vice Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim surfaced on Friday as the latter began contacting the party's coalition partners individually to secure support for his bid to become Pakistan's next Prime Minister.

Though the party denies internal differences, the media says both Zardari and Fahim are vying for the post of prime minister.

Fahim met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Fazlur Rehman on Friday.

Fazl told reporters after the meeting that the PPP would remain united and that he would not be interfering in its internal affairs.

"I had also planned to meet Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali but the meeting could not take place because of Wali's engagements," the Daily Times quoted Fazl, as saying.

Meanwhile, veteran PPP politician Mir Taj Muhammad Jamali still feels that Fahim is the best choice for Prime Minister.
