Maoists demand for 60 % seats has dented left alliance formation in Nepal

Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has claimed that the Maoists demand for 60 per cent of seats in the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections lead to the failure of the formation of a left alliance.

Kathmandu, Mar 14 : Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has claimed that the Maoists demand for 60 per cent of seats in the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections lead to the failure of the formation of a left alliance.

Terming the Maoists demand as an "extravagant proposal,' Nepal claimed that the Maoists asked for 60 percent seats in such an alliance.

"There were proposals for us to vacate constituencies where we are in strong position," Nepalnews.com quoted him, as saying.

Nepal, however, said that there were still chances for such alliance based on realities.

It may be recalled that for the last few days, leaders of the UML and Maoists were engaged in verbal war over the issue of alliance.
