Di and Dodi planned to see Bond filming

Princess Diana and her lover Dodi Al Fayed were due to visit the set of James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies the day after the couple were killed in a car crash in Paris, the inquest into their deaths has heard.

London, March 14 : Princess Diana and her lover Dodi Al Fayed were due to visit the set of James Bond movie 'Tomorrow Never Dies' the day after the couple were killed in a car crash in Paris, the inquest into their deaths has heard.

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli revealed that she had been waiting for the pair at Pinewood studios where Tomorrow Never Dies was being shot.

Broccoli, the daughter of James Bond producer Albert R Broccoli, arranged the meeting during her last conversation with Dodi on August 29 1997, when he called from his luxury yacht while holidaying with Diana in the Mediterranean.

In a statement, which was read out at the London High Court hearing, Broccoli recalled that Dodi wanted to see her on September 1 1997, reports The Sun.

"He (Dodi) said he would like to see me on September 1 1997. I told him that we were filming at Pinewood Studios and they should come see me," The Sun quoted Broccoli, as saying in the statement.

Since Dodi's romance with Diana was a hot topic in the press at the time, Broccoli teased him with a "Hi Romeo".

He told her: "I have never been so happy in my life. We are flying from Paris tomorrow and I have something very important to tell you but I cannot tell you over the phone."

In her statement she said: "My impression at the time was the something very important that Dodi wanted to tell me related to his personal life and his relationship with Diana and not any other matters such as business - that was my impression at the time and it remains my impression now."

They agreed to travel to Pinewood and chat and watch the day's filming, she added.

Broccoli said that Dodi had said he was not sure whether the line from the boat was secure and maybe the paparazzi were listening in.

Dodi's father Harrods boss Mohamed al Fayed has claimed the pair were murdered by M16 at the orders of the royal family because Diana was pregnant with his son's child and the couple were set to get engaged.
