A Texan businessman Sada Cumber has been appointed as Americas first special envoy to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Washington, Mar 12 : A Texan businessman Sada Cumber has been appointed as America's first special envoy to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Fifty-five-years-old Cumber was born and educated in Karachi.
At a State Department ceremony US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced his appointment on Monday.
The ceremony was attended by most of the Muslim ambassadors, including the Pakistan Ambassador Mahmud Ali Durrani.
Rice said that this appointment emphasis President George W Bush and the US Government's deep respect for the values and the ideals of Islam.
"This appointment is one part of a much larger effort that our Government has undertaken to increase our engagement with Muslim communities worldwide." The Daily Times quoted Cumber, as saying.
He said he would act as a bridge between OIC member States' ideas and US perspectives.e added that I did not expect a consensus on every issue, but hopes for a better environment of mutual respect and trust between the two countries.
