Kathmandu , Mar.11 :The Election Commission of Nepal has expressed worries that the security situation in some districts of Terai is still not satisfactory enough.
During an interaction with one dozen ministers of the government on Tuesday morning, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Bhojraj Pokharel, said that although the incidents of violence have reduced, the situation is still not normal.
According to NepalNews, EC officials urged the ministers to improve the security situation. They also drew the attention of the ministers towards full implementation of election code of conduct.
The Ministers were urged not to use government resources for campaigning
The warning on security came even as reports revealed that at least 35 Village Defence Committee secretaries in Nepal's Sunsari District have received threats from armed rebel groups in the Terai region, forcing them to stay away from their work stations in villages.
According to The Himalayan Times, only 14 secretaries of villages along the east-west highway are working at their office.
Most of the secretaries who received threats are camping at District Development Committee hall.
Madhesi Mukti Tigers, Akhil Terai Mukti Morcha of Jay Krishna Goit and Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha of Jwala Singh were some of the armed groups threatening the secretaries, the paper claimed.
The JTMM (J) has warned of action against government employees of hilly origin while ATMM has published a list 37 people, including government employees, businessmen and other personalities of the district and said they would file charges in their Terai People's Court.
The government has said security would be tightened in Terai District from next week intended to create environment for polls.
