JUI-F joining ensures majority for PPP-PML (N)-ANP alliance

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) decision to join hands with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has all but ensured a two-thirds majority for them in the National Assembly.

Islamabad, Mar 10 : The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) decision to join hands with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has all but ensured a two-thirds majority for them in the National Assembly.

The PPP, PML-N and the ANP were a few numbers short for forming a two-thirds majority, but the JUI-F's decision to be a part of the coalition has taken number of the MNAs-elect to 229, one more than the figure required for a two-thirds majority in the 342-member Assembly.

According to the Daily Times, the PPP has 120 MNAs, the PML-N has 90 and the ANP has 13, while the JUI-F have six members in the National Assembly.

MNAs elected from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) are also likely to join the coalition.

The four-party coalition can have a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly but it is still short of numbers required in the Senate where the PML-Q led coalition is in the majority.
