Murree Accord good omen for Pak, but bad news for US, says Gul

The signing of Murree Accord by PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was a good omen for Pakistan but a bad news for Washington, because the document refused to accept the American dictation (of letting President Pervez Musharraf complete his five year term), said former ISI chief Hamid Gul.

Islamabad, Mar 10 : The signing of Murree Accord by PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was a good omen for Pakistan but a bad news for Washington, because the document refused to accept the American dictation (of letting President Pervez Musharraf complete his five year term), said former ISI chief Hamid Gul.

The Accord talks about restoration of judiciary to its pre-Nov 3 form, which means it would support reinstatement of former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chowdhary. This, in turn, would mean more problems for Musharraf because the judge might consider declaring his position as illegal and unconstitutional.

According to the Accord, Musharraf can not only be impeached but he can also be put to trial, The Nation quoted Gul as saying in an interview with a TV channel.

However, welcoming the latest political developments, viz signing of the Murree Accord, Gul said it carried good omen for the country.
