Prachanda advances three conditions to lead Nepal Government

Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has put forward three conditions to lead the Nepal Government.

Kathmandu, July 25 : Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has put forward three conditions to lead the Nepal Government.

Talking to reporters after his party held discussions with all 24 parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA), Prachanda said that first the so-called alliance of the Nepali Congress, the CPN (UML) and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), should be broken.

"Second, a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) should be forged, which should also reflect Maoists' manifesto to a large extent. Third, there should be a guarantee that no one will engage in exercise to pull down the Government for at least two years till the constitution is written," Nepalnews quoted him, as saying.

However, the Nepali Congress (NC), the UML and the MJF leaders have termed as 'unjustified' the three conditions advanced by the Maoists to lead the government.

Following Prachanda's conditions, the leaders of the three parties have said that a party that intends to lead the government should not be posing conditions.

"The new alliance was forged to take the peace process to a logical end. There is no need to break that alliance. Besides, the party that wants to lead the government should be fulfilling others' conditions," said Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel.

The MJF coordinator Upendra Yadav said, "It is ridiculous that two days after they decided not to join government, they have come up with conditions."

Earlier, the Maoists have said that they will stay away from the process of forming a new Government in Nepal.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Prachanda said the decision to stay away from the Government was made by the party central secretariat after the Constituent Assembly (CA) members ''rejected'' Ram Raja Prasad Singh in Presidential run-off election.
