Prince Charles is doing his bit to save the planet by running his famous Aston Martin on white wine.

London, July 1 : Prince Charles is doing his bit to save the planet by running his famous Aston Martin on white wine.

The prince has converted his Volante DB6 to allow it run on bioethanol made from surplus British wine.

The heir to the throne approached Gloucestershire-based firm Greenfuels about the wine plan last year.

"Bioethanol is more environmentally friendly because you grow a crop then harvest it," The Sun quoted managing director James Hygate, as saying.

"There is also no doubt that with his Aston Martin running on bioethanol rather than conventional petrol it will go faster," he added.

The 59-year-old Royal's scheme was revealed as Clarence House published his annual accounts.

For the first time, he also published statistics on how green he has become - slashing his greenhouse gas emissions by 18 per cent in the past 12 months.

The Prince achieved the enviable position by off-setting his payments to the Inland Revenue with a series of green purchases, including a converter for his Aston Martin to allow it to run on bioethanol and installing woodchip boilers in his home.

Part of the reduction was achieved by converting his range of Jaguars, Audi and Range Rover to run on biodiesel made from used cooking oil.

The account books also revealed that Prince Charles paid less tax last year, despite his income rose by more than 1million pounds last year.
