Brit-Muslim jailed for plotting terror strikes in Pakistan, Afghanistan

A 29-year-old qualified dentist was yesterday sent to prison for four-and-a-half years after he admitted that he had planned to go to Pakistan to carry out acts of terrorism.

London, Jan 9 : A 29-year-old qualified dentist was yesterday sent to prison for four-and-a-half years after he admitted that he had planned to go to Pakistan to carry out acts of terrorism.

The dentist, Sohail Qureshi, told fellow extremists that he had planned to "kill many" during a two-to-three week mission.

The police found that Qureshi had posted a quote: "Pray that I kill many, brother. Revenge, revenge, revenge" on an extremist website.

Qureshi was arrested when he was trying to board a plane for Pakistan with nearly 9,000 pounds, a night sight, and military information stored on computer discs.

Jonathan Sharp, prosecuting, said Qureshi planned to carry out terrorist activity either in Pakistan or Afghanistan.

Sharp said: "Sohail Qureshi is a dedicated supporter of Islamist extremism."

Qureshi was also in touch with the so-called "lyrical terrorist" Samina Malik.

According to the Sun, Qureshi had asked Malik, who worked airside at the Heathrow Airport, to look after security arrangements while he prepared to fly to Islamabad in October 2006.

Last year, Malik, who wrote poems about martyrdom and beheading unbelievers, too was sent to jail sentence last year for storing a library of material for terrorism.

Qureshi had pleaded guilty to preparing for terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, the first time anyone has been convicted of the charge.
