London, Jan 07 : January 7 is the day divorce lawyers can look forward to with glee, for it's the date when most couples will begin divorce proceedings.

The finding is based on a new survey that also found that the first full working week after Christmas is the one when divorce lawyers are at their busiest.

What's more is the fact that the fairer sex is the one who instigates three-quarters of the splits.

According to The Sun, affairs will be what bring about the collapse of four out of ten marriages.

The next most common reasons are domestic abuse at the hand of the partner, and boredom.

Derek Bedlow, Insidedivorce.com head honcho, admitted that married couples are quicker to call it quits these days than ever before.

"People are quicker to throw in the towel than ever before," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

And, even couples that have been together for more than a decade are not immune, for divorce among over 60s has soared 48 per cent since 1991 in the UK, the survey found.
