Indians in Scotland celebrate Republic Day with fervour

Indians in Scotland on Saturday celebrated the 59th Republic Day of India with gaiety and enthusiasm.

Edinburgh (Scotland), Jan 27 : Indians in Scotland on Saturday celebrated the 59th Republic Day of India with gaiety and enthusiasm.

Consul General of India, Ramesh Chander, hoisted the tricolour at his residence in Edinburgh and read the message of the President of India on the occasion to an impressive gathering of members of the Indian community and friends of India.

The congregation came alive with the touch of patriotic and devotional music rendered by the local Indian talent lead by Anshul Tomar and Panchali Bari, and Dr. Noor Bharti of Glasgow did the poetry recital.

Chander greeted and congratulated the Indian community on the solemn and happy occasion of India's Republic Day.

He said that it was a matter of gratification that India was doing very well in her developmental endeavours and we should all be proud of it.

Consul General referring to the recently held Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi, gave an overview of the decisions and initiatives of the Government of India with regard to 'Engaging the Diaspora' like PIO University, Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre, India Development Fund, etc.
