Rogue phone call may have caused Heathrow jet crash

A rogue phone call may have caused last weeks Heathrow jet crash.

London, Jan.22 : A rogue phone call may have caused last week's Heathrow jet crash.

Transport Department investigators are probing the possibility a crossed line diverted a call to the Boeing 777, interfering with its computers and shutting down the engines.

The theory came to light as dramatic pictures of the moment the British Airways jet hit the ground emerged.

It follows a bizarre incident ten weeks ago when mum Susan Archibald rang a BA lost baggage 0845 number.

After waiting for 20 minutes, she was put through to the cockpit of a 777 standing on the same runway involved in Thursday's drama, in which 152 trippers escaped, The Sun reported.

Susan, 43, of Aberdeen, said: "I heard a man saying, 'Passengers and crew seated ready for take-off for this London to Los Angeles flight'. The call then ended."

After she reported it BA admitted: "There must have been a mix-up with a mobile in a pilot's jacket." Jet passengers are told to turn off mobiles for fear of interference with communications systems.

Yesterday BA said: "We will look at November's phone incident as part of our investigation into the crash."

Investigators will also examine photos taken by plane spotter David Spalton, 22. The aircraft is seen skimming houses before sending up sparks and clouds of soil as it thuds into grass by the runway.
