Ruling parties of Nepal have slammed the pro-monarchy remarks of Sujata Koirala, the daughter of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, terming them as anti-constitutional.

Kathmandu, Jan 15 : Ruling parties of Nepal have slammed the "pro-monarchy" remarks of Sujata Koirala, the daughter of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, terming them as "anti-constitutional."

Disapproving of Sujata's remarks at the Seven Party Steering Committee meeting, senior leaders demanded that the Nepali Congress (NC) provide explanation for the remarks of the recently appointed Minister (without portfolio).

While advocating constitutional monarchy of which she has been a vocal proponent all along, Sujata, a day after being appointed as the minister, on Saturday, said although a King could be wrong, the monarchy as an institution cannot be.

Many had raised their eyebrows when the Nepali Congress leader said that the 1990 Constitution could be revived if the twice-postponed Constituent Assembly election is not held in April.

At the steering committee meeting, the leaders also raised their objection to the decision of the Nepali Congress to appoint the first daughter as cabinet minister without consulting alliance partners.he Nepali Congress said that the party had "taken note" of Sujata's remarks, but refused to say anything further in the matter, Nepalnews quoted the sources, as saying.

The steering committee was formed to look into the implementation of the 23-point agreement signed by the seven parties, including the Maoists.
