Tenzing Norgays grandsons tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillarys demise is a great loss for the people around the world, says eldest grandson of Tenzing Norgay, who conquered Mt. Everest in 1953, along with Hillary.

Wellington, Jan 12 : Sir Edmund Hillary's demise is a great loss for the people around the world, says eldest grandson of Tenzing Norgay, who conquered Mt. Everest in 1953, along with Hillary.

Tashi Tenzing said that Hillary not just motivated the Kiwis, but also the Sherpas.

"The New Zealand people are very sad today, but they should be happy, they have a big man with a very big heart who has not inspired just the people of New Zealand, but the Sherpas and the people around the world," the NZPA quoted Tashi, as telling Fairfax Media from the Himalayas.

"Most Sherpas will feel we have lost a great man," he added.

His mother, Tenzing's eldest daughter, was devastated after learning that Sir Edmund has gone.

"It is a great loss for the family of Sir Edmund Hillary, and for the Tensing family, and for all the Sherpas in Kathmandu. We feel we have lost a great hero, a godfather for all the Sherpas," she said.

Tashi said that Sir Edmund is remembered in all the schools and hospitals.

"For me I see Sir Edmund as a great hero. That is what heroes are all made of. Not climbing mountains. You can climb the top mountains and that is a great feat," he said.

"That is what heroes are made of....I think the best way to remember Sir Ed is a big man with a big heart.

"We will keep the legacy of Sir Edmund in Nepal," he added.
