Benazirs chehlum begins in Garhi Khuda Bux (Lead)

The central commemoration ceremony in connection with the chehlum of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has begun with the recitation of the Quran (Quran Khawni) in Garhi Khuda Bux in the countrys Sindh Province on Thursday morning.

Garhi Khuda Bux, Feb 7 : The central commemoration ceremony in connection with the chehlum of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has begun with the recitation of the Quran (Quran Khawni) in Garhi Khuda Bux in the country's Sindh Province on Thursday morning.

The Chehlum sitting was started after the formal recitation from the Quran and now the Quran Khawni is in progress. The chehlum is being held in the premises of Benazir's mausoleum.

According to programme, the central ceremony will feature Noha, Naat Khawnwi and duas.

Heavy contingents of police and the Rangers have been deployed here in view of security risks. The scanners have been installed at the entrances of the main area of ceremony.

People in caravans - some by vehicles and others on foot -- are still arriving in Garhi Khuda Bux to attend the chehlum of Benazir.

A public holiday has been announced in Larkana on the occasion of Chehlum.

Earlier, the PPP had set up camps around the Bhutto mausoleum for people wanting to attend the Chehlum (40th day) ceremony of its martyred chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Cassettes of Benazir's speeches are being circulated and aired in the camps.ome people are arriving by foot for the solemn ceremony that will be held under strict security, reports The News.

Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide bomb-cum gun shot attack in Rawalpindi's Liaquat Bagh area on December 27, 2007.
