PPP for end of military operation in Balochistan, provincial autonomy

The Pakistan Peoples Party on Sunday expressed its desire for an end to military operations against rebels in Balochistan and also called for the release of all political prisoners in the southwestern province.

Islamabad, Feb 24 : The Pakistan People's Party on Sunday expressed its desire for an end to military operations against rebels in Balochistan and also called for the release of all political prisoners in the southwestern province.

The PPP made this call after a meeting between its top leaders and party officials from Balochistan.

The party apologizes to the people of Balochistan for "the atrocities and injustices committed against them" by government forces, said the statement issued by the PPP.

It also called for the release of all political prisoners, including former Provincial Chief Minister Akhtar Mengal.

The statement also called for "maximum provincial autonomy" for Baluchistan and Pakistan's three other provinces, the Dawn reported.
