French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday married his new lady love, Carla Bruni at his official Elysee Palace residence, according to French radio station RTL.

Paris, Feb 2 : French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday married his new lady love, Carla Bruni at his official Elysee Palace residence, according to French radio station RTL.

A spokesman at Sarkozy's office, however, declined to comment on the report.

Bruni was making headlines around the world for her relationship with Sarkozy, which started late last year.

Italian-born supermodel turned singer Bruni and Sarkozy had indicated last month that they wanted to marry, but had also made it clear that their wedding would be a private affair.

It may be recalled that a French newspaper report on January 14 that they had tied the knot was false.

The radio station quoted Bernadette Chirac, wife of previous French President Jacques Chirac, as saying that getting married at the Elysee was "a wonderful thing."

"I want to express all my best wishes to this new household. She is very, very beautiful," added Bernadette Chirac.

Fifty-three-year-old Sarkozy separated from his second wife Cecilia in last October.

Bruni, 40, has previously been linked with rock stars Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, as well as U.S. businessman Donald Trump.

She has a son from a previous relationship, while Sarkozy has two grown-up sons from his first marriage, and a third son from his marriage to Cecilia.
