London, Feb 17 : The Prince of Wales seems to have no control over his speech when it comes to commenting on contemporary architecture.
The royal has again expressed his disgust on present-day architecture, this time describing a modern flagship university building, named after a senior academic, as "a dustbin".
Prince Charles has been the target of a similar controversy earlier, when he named one building "a carbuncle".
Now, he went on to criticise the appearance of the Ivor Crewe lecture theatre at the University of Essex in Colchester on 15th Feb, while addressing soldiers in the building.
However, his insulting remarks resulted in immediate laughter and applause from his audience.
Charles was meeting paratroopers, just before their deployment in Afghanistan from March, and addressing soldiers from the Second Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and their families.
"I understand about 1,700 are crammed into what looks like a dustbin from the outside," the Scotsman quoted him, as telling the gathering.
According to a spokesman for the university, the lecture hall, which is circular, built in to a hillside and made of stainless steel, was regarded as a "flagship building" on the campus.
The Prince also claimed last month that the sprouting of tall buildings in London was creating a "positive rash" of new carbuncles. He said that Bath and Edinburgh were also under threat from such towers.
