UN probe into Benazirs assassination could be sought: French Minister

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has said that a United Nations (UN) probe into the Pakistani ex-premier Benazir Bhuttos assassination could be sought if group of friends, which including European ambassadors recommend a format for such an inquiry.

New York, Feb 14 : French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has said that a United Nations (UN) probe into the Pakistani ex-premier Benazir Bhutto's assassination could be sought if "group of friends", which including European ambassadors recommend a 'format' for such an inquiry.

Speaking to reporters at a UN media gathering after a Security Council meeting, Kouchner said that a "Scotland Yard" inquiry had been concluded, but said that a UN inquiry could be sought if the European envoys agreed to a particular format.

"We can consider this", Kouchner said when asked whether France would support a Harriri-like UN inquiry into the Benazir's death, the Dawn reported.
