PML-N for consensus interim govt before Feb 18 polls

Demanding resignation of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that a consensus government should be formed to hold free polls on February 18.

Islamabad, Feb 12 : Demanding resignation of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that a consensus government should be formed to hold free polls on February 18.

After the assassination of ex-premier Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif is the only national leader in the country, Sindh Information Secretary of PML-N Zahid Rafik Butt told reporters.

Butt alleged that the government machinery is being used to support the candidates who are kith and kin of the caretaker government and previous government.

The caretaker government is not impartial and is rather a continuation of the previous government; The News quoted him, as saying.

Opposition parties, particularly, are being targeted with suicide attacks, said Butt while questioning why meetings of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) are not being attacked.

He went on to say that the government was taking every possible step to rig the elections, but the opponents would still lose the upcoming elections.

The PML-N candidates are facing threats, and their banners and posters are being removed and the pro-government parties are violating the code of conduct of the Election Commission, Butt said.
