London, Feb 1 : A Brit woman rang the emergency services just because she didn't have 1 pound for a shopping trolley. Well, this is one of the 999 silliest calls, which South Wales police force has revealed in a bid to cut the number of inappropriate requests.
The police force said that one in 10 emergency calls they receive are either inappropriate or a deliberate misuse of the 999 system.
The force is having a hard time keeping up with the nonsense calls and so have decided to its 999 greeting from "How can I help?" to "What is your emergency?".
Among some of the other bizarre requests made to South Wales police include a caller wanting the police to come and remove his mother-in-law, who had been staying at his house for 18 days, reports the Telegraph.
Pets also proved a common problem with one caller asking police to arrest her boyfriend "because he put my hamster out in the rain" and another seeking guidance because she had a small kitten in her house and "I don't know what to do with it."
The force has urged people to only call 999 where a crime is in progress, violence is being used, an offender has recently been disturbed, or if there is a road accident where someone is injured or the road is blocked.
Callers should report non-urgent crimes to their local police station.
