London, Feb 1 : A renowned ice cream parlour has chosen not to pour chocolate sauce over its cones following safety fears.
Morellis Gelato ice cream parlour has decided not to pour toppings as the customers may slip on spilled toppings on the floor.
The Italian company would now be providing separate containers containing the flavoured sauce and other toppings including nuts so that the customers could decide themselves.
"If people eat inside one of our restaurants they will be served ice cream in a dish and the sauce will be poured on top," the Telegraph quoted Bibi Morelli, spokesman, as saying.
"If however they order an ice cream cone to take away we will provide them with a separate tub.
"It's just not sensible to pour the sauce over the cone as its only going to spill onto the floor and they could slip over.
"The customers themselves can chose whether to put the topping on the desert once they have been served. It's simply common sense and it's something we've been doing for the last 75 years," he added.
However, John Midley, of the Campaign for Political Correctness claims that the decision seems completely barmy.
"It's an example of the over-the-top health and safety culture in which we live, he said.
"Perhaps they are too frightened of being on the receiving end of ludicrous compensation claims and it's a shame that they have to go to such ridiculous lengths," he added.
