Mohamed al Fayed has announced that he has abandoned his 10-and-a-half-year legal quest to prove that Diana, Princess of Wales and his son Dodi al Fayed were murdered by the British security services on the orders of Prince Philip.
London, April 9 : Mohamed al Fayed has announced that he has abandoned his 10-and-a-half-year legal quest to prove that Diana, Princess of Wales and his son Dodi al Fayed were murdered by the British security services on the orders of Prince Philip.
Following the conclusion of the inquest into their deaths, Fayed said he would accept the verdict of the jury, adding that he was "tired" and was "leaving the rest for God to get my revenge".
In an interview with ITV News, the Harrods owner said that he was doing so for the sake of Diana's sons, Princes William and Harry.
But he maintained he still believed his son and the princess were murdered and said the inquest backed up his belief, reports the Telegraph.
Fayed told Sir Trevor McDonald: "I'm a father who has lost his son and I've done everything for 10 years. But now with the verdict I accept it, but with reservations."
"Enough is enough... for the sake of the two princes, who I know loved their mother. I'm leaving the rest for God to get my revenge. I'm not doing anything any more... this is the end," he added.
Fayed also criticised coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker for not looking at every aspect of the case.
"I'm very grateful to [the jury] because the most important thing in their verdict is that they mentioned that it is not an accident, it's an unlawful killing," he said.
"After meeting with my lawyers this afternoon there are still a lot of options but I'm tired.
"The most important thing is that the jury has come up that this is not an accident, it's a murder. And this gives me great satisfaction because it proved my point that my son and Diana were murdered," he added.
Diana and Dodi were killed alongside their driver Henri Paul when their Mercedes crashed into the 13th pillar of the Alma Tunnel in Paris on August 31 1997.
