Prachanda slams media for being very prejudiced

Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) chairman Prachanda on Sunday accused the Nepalese media of being very prejudiced against him.

Kathmandu, Apr 6 : Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) chairman Prachanda on Sunday accused the Nepalese media of being "very prejudiced" against him.

Prachanda said that the media has "played a crucial role in bringing the transformation (in Nepal) by writing in favour of the people during the people's movement".

While speaking at the inauguration function of a new radio station, he suggested that the media must "act responsibly and write in favour of the people at this historical juncture for institutionalising the republic."

"The media sector should unite in order to make the Constituent Assembly election a success so as to establish a republican set up in the country," nepalnews.com quoted Prachanda, as saying.

He also opined that the state-owned media should be brought under the "ownership of the people."
