Nepal sign MoU with Bahrain to get legal status

Nepal and the Kingdom of Bahrain have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on labour and occupational training to ensure greater benefits for Nepali workers.

Kathmandu, Apr 30 : Nepal and the Kingdom of Bahrain have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on labour and occupational training to ensure greater benefits for Nepali workers.

Minister of Labour Ramesh Lekhak and his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Majeed Bin Muhsin Al Alawi, signed the pact.

Speaking after signing the deal, Lekhak said the deal would help to ensure legal rights and benefits for Nepali laborers working in Bahrain.

Lekhak further expressed hope that the bilateral pact would open up new opportunities for mutual cooperation between the two countries even as Nepal embarks on the road to economic development following the historic Constituent Assembly polls.

Meanwhile, Bahraini Labour Minister Al Alawi said the MoU would ensure legal relations between us and Nepali migrant workers.

"The two countries can also cooperate in areas like tourism, human resource development and training in the days to come," ekantipur.com quoted Alawi as saying.

According to official figures, around 10,000 Nepalis are working in Bahrain.
