An Indian student aged 23, who drives a taxi as a part time job, was reportedly attacked by some unidentified miscreants in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. He was left bleeding from the multiple stab wounds along the roadside in Clifton Hill.Yet to be identified, the Indian youth is said to be in a critical condition in a hospital.

Sydney, Apr 29 : An Indian student aged 23, who drives a taxi as a part time job, was reportedly attacked by some unidentified miscreants in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. He was left bleeding from the multiple stab wounds along the roadside in Clifton Hill.Yet to be identified, the Indian youth is said to be in a critical condition in a hospital.

Police have released images of the attack. Detectives believe he was attacked some time around 3 am, possibly in Hodgkinson Street near Wellington Street, reported The Age.

According to the paper, it is believed that after stabbing him several times his attackers drove the taxi a short distance before it collided with a street sign near the corner of Gold Street and Queens Parade.

The stabbed taxi driver was found at around 5.30 am by two men having a morning walk along Hodgkinson Street.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed for any eyewitness to the incident. "We'd like for anyone who heard a car driving erratically or who heard any yelling (to call). Or who can assist with our inquiries in anyway, contact Crime Stoppers. Immediate inquiries are in the vicinity of Hodgkinson Street, Gold Street, and North and South Terrace in Clifton Hill," the paper quoted Detective Senior Constable Brendan Smith as saying.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the driver was found about 250 to 300 metres away from the taxi.
