Micron Extends Temperature Range of Automotive Memory Products

Boise, Idaho, United States

Micron Technology, Inc. today announced that it is extending its line of automotive memory products to reach an extended temperature range of -40 degrees to +105 degrees Celsius, critical for keeping the memory operating under extreme heat conditions. These new products complement Micron's existing line of high-quality, rigorously-tested automotive memory and storage products (with a temperature range of -40 degrees to +85 degrees Celsius) that power some of the world's most popular in-car electronic applications.

Today's vehicles feature a growing variety of entertainment, convenience, and advanced safety options including navigation, telematics and driver assistance. These features require automotive manufacturers to design more technology - into less space - to keep the systems running. With the additional devices packed into a vehicle, these clusters of technology generate additional heat, creating a challenging environment to maintain operation. As an answer to this challenge, the extended temperature range of Micron's new automotive temperature (AT) memory products offers outstanding performance and proven reliability for products designed to operate under these conditions.

As further confirmation to its commitment to the automotive market, Micron today also announced that it is ranked as the number one supplier in automotive DRAM market share; according to a recent report published by Gartner (Semiconductor Industry Worldwide Annual Market Share: Database, March 2008). The ranking notes that Micron captured a 34 percent share in automotive DRAM for 2007 and it was the second straight year that the company was the top ranked vendor.

"The keys to success in automotive electronic design are ensuring product longevity and reliability, which we accomplish through technology innovation and market commitment," said Richard Chaney, Senior Manager of Automotive Marketing for Micron. "As evidenced by our leadership in supplying our customers with the industry's highest automotive temperature range memory products and the latest Gartner ranking, we remain steadfast in our dedication to the automotive industry."

Micron's new AT memory products include PSRAM, SDR, DDR2, and Mobile DRAM components and come in an array of organizations, densities, and packages. Specifically, a key advantage of Micron's Mobile DRAM is its x32 configuration, enabling a low-cost option by using fewer components for wide-bus architectures. Micron's AT memory products are also well-suited for applications that require an extended temperature range such as mobile and industrial where heat is often an issue with stacking in multi-chip packages.

Micron's line of AT memory parts are now in mass production. Additional information on Micron's AT memory products, plus its broader line of automotive memory and storage technology can be found at www.micron.com/applications/automotive.
