UML standing committee discusses agendas for central committee meeting

Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) standing committee today set the agendas for a crucial meeting of the central committee which begins from Sunday.

Kathmandu, Apr 26 : Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) standing committee today set the agendas for a crucial meeting of the central committee which begins from Sunday.

According to Ishwor Pokharel, a standing committee member, today's meeting has set three main agendas - review of the CA election results, general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal's resignation from his post and planning for the party's upcoming national convention.

He said the central committee meeting will take decisions on these and other issues concerning the party organisation and policies.

The standing committee also passed a political report presented by acting general secretary Amrit Kumar Bohara.

The standing committee, which is the highest body of the party, also discussed the list of candidates to be sent to the Election Commission (EC) for Proportional Representation seats, but no decision was taken.

UML has received 70 seats under the PR system. The EC has asked the parties to furnish the names for PR within a week.

The central committee meeting is being held at a time when the party leadership is facing intense pressure from the party ranks to overhaul the policies and organisational structure.
