Napoleons desk fetches 96,500 pounds at auction

A bedside table that once belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte had fetched a whopping 96,500 pounds at auction.

London, Apr 25 : A bedside table that once belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte had fetched a whopping 96,500 pounds at auction.

The table went under the hammer at Christie's on April 24 and was expected to fetch a maximum of 2,000 to 3,000 pounds, reports Times Online.

The table formed part of a suite of furniture made by the celebrated cabinetmaker George Bullock.

Originally sold for a mere 310 pounds, the table has a series of marks that were made by the Emperor.

Napoleon left scars on the table by burning pastilles on it.

Pastilles were originally a pill shaped lump of compressed herbs, which was burnt to release its medicinal properties.
