Celebs have little influence on swaying American votes: Poll

Oprah Winfrey may have thrown her weight behind Barack Obama, and Jack Nicholson may be backing Hillary Clinton, but that doesnt mean they will be able to influence the way Americans cast their vote, a new poll has found.

New York, Apr 18 : Oprah Winfrey may have thrown her weight behind Barack Obama, and Jack Nicholson may be backing Hillary Clinton, but that doesn't mean they will be able to influence the way Americans cast their vote, a new poll has found.

The nationwide online poll of 2,513 adults by Harris Interactive found that to fifty percent of Americans, celebrities make little or no positive difference in the cause they are promoting.

And, it doesn't matter if the cause is a political candidate or a social issue, reports the New York Post.

The poll also found that nearly half of Americans also think that celeb involvement in politics is not such a good thing, with only 33 percent thinking it's a good thing.

Only half of the people surveyed thought that Oprah was "very effective" at raising awareness of her causes, with Bono trailing her at 33 percent, Angelina Jolie with 30 percent, Brad Pitt with 25 percent, and lastly George Clooney with 22 percent.
