Gilgit-Baltistan leader kidnapped, says Skardu leader

A key leader of the Gilgit Baltistan United Movement (GBUM) today charged Pakistans Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency of kidnapping Gilgit Baltistan Democratic Alliance (GBDA) Chairman Ghulam Shezad Agha.

Skardu, Apr.15 : A key leader of the Gilgit Baltistan United Movement (GBUM) today charged Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency of kidnapping Gilgit Baltistan Democratic Alliance (GBDA) Chairman Ghulam Shezad Agha.

According to Manzoor Hussain Parwana, Chairman of the GBUM, Agha was kidnapped on Monday from Skardu.

Parwana said that Agha's crime was that he had held a press conference to protest the excesses of the Lahore-based Diskon Company on April 13.

The company is constructing the Sadpara Dam, and according to Parwana, Agha has been detained at the ISI Centre in Skardu.

Parwana confirmed that his GBUM has appealed to the European Parliament and several human rights organisations to put pressure on the Pakistan Government to end its inhuman treatment of people of Gilgit and Baltistan.

"We appeal for the urgent release of Agha Shehzad. We believe this is a clear signal to the new democratic Government of Pakistan, that the ISI is still the super power in the decision making process in Pakistan. The ISI does not respect any executive or judiciary," Parwana said in a statement.
