US, UK, Australia congratulate PM Koirala on successful CA polls

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Tuesday held separate consultations with the British and US ambassadors and discussed the political situation in Nepal in the aftermath of the historical Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.

Kathamndu, Apr.15 : Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Tuesday held separate consultations with the British and US ambassadors and discussed the political situation in Nepal in the aftermath of the historical Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.

During separate meetings held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, US ambassador Nancy J Powell and British ambassador Andrew Hall congratulated Koirala for conducting the CA polls successfully.

British ambassador Andrew Hall submitted a letter to Koirala from UK Minister for International Development Shahid Mallik praising the PM on the CA polls.

Mallik, in his letter, lauded the role played by Koirala in the overall peace process, including the CA polls, PM's Foreign Affairs advisor Adatya Baral informed.

According to Baral, in the letter, the British minister also committed to extend development assistance to Nepal in the future as well.

Likewise, US ambassador to Nepal Nancy J Powell congratulated Koirala for holding the CA polls in a successful manner, Baral said.

Koirala also thanked the US government for assisting Nepal and the Election Commission in making the CA polls a success.

He also talked about the formation of a new government and new Constitution and the implementation of a federal republic in the country among other issues with the ambassadors, sources said.

The meetings also dealt with the extension of U.K and US assistance to Nepal, sources added.

Meanwhile, Australia also welcomed the successful conduction of the CA polls in Nepal.

It said that the success of the elections will construct a solid basis for writing a new constitution and will assist in economic development.

Australia also expressed commitment to extend support for development and lasting democracy in Nepal.
