Lahore, Apr.14 : At least 13 people were injured in violence in neighbouring Multan on Monday.
Police had to step in to disperse an angry mob that set a bank and scores of vehicles, including motorbikes on fire.
Police had to also fire shots in the air and resort to a baton charge and use of teargas to disperse the angry mob that set the records and furniture, vehicles and different sections of a Water And Power Development Authority (WAPDA) office on fire.
Hundreds of labourers and other protesters came out onto the streets to demonstrate against prolonged electric outages in the city.
Most of the damage was done on Khanewal Road.
Punjab's Inspector General of Police, Azhar Hassan Nadeem, said strict action was being taken to bring the situation under control.
He said he had deputed the Additional IG-RPO with a heavy police contingent for the job of restoring normalcy to the disturbed area.
