Taking responsibly for the defeat of the Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) in the Constituent Assembly elections, partys general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday announced resignation from his post.
Kathmandu, Apr 12 : Taking responsibly for the defeat of the Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) in the Constituent Assembly elections, party's general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday announced resignation from his post.
According to sources, Nepal vowed to resign as the party chief during an informal meeting of the central committee of his party.
"He has already decided to resign. We agree with the spirit of the decision, but we have suggested him to make the formal announcement only after the complete results of the election come," nepalnews.com quoted UML central committee member, Raghuji Panta, as saying.
Nepal has been heading the party since past 15 years.
