The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) has urged the political parties and leaders to accept outcome of the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
Kathmandu, Apr 11 : The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) has urged the political parties and leaders to accept outcome of the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
"Political parties and their leaders now need to ensure that they accept the people's decision through this election, or where they have challenges in relation to the process to pursue these through the proper legal channels," Special Representative of UN Secretary General and UNMIN chief Ian Martin said in a statement.
Martin said that both international and national observer groups would be making public their findings regarding the electoral process, including preparations, polling and the post-polling process in the coming days and weeks.
"I congratulate the people of Nepal, who have demonstrated their commitment to democracy by turning out in large numbers to vote in historic Constituent Assembly election. I also congratulate the Election Commission on its conduct of the poll," nepalnews.com quoted him as saying.
Martin also said that UNMIN assisted in creating a free and fair atmosphere for the election and its electoral staff would remain in the regions and districts until the counting is completed.
According to the Election Commission of Nepal, the voter turnout on Thursday was 60 percent and polling in 33 out of over 20,000 polling stations has been cancelled.
