The Ahmedzai Wazir tribes of Waziristan have opposed the removal of the controversial Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) from the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) announced by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani on Saturday.
Islamabad, Apr 1 : The Ahmedzai Wazir tribes of Waziristan have opposed the removal of the controversial Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) from the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) announced by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani on Saturday.
A jirga of the Ahmedzai Wazir has decided to oppose any attempt to abolish the FCR in the absence of a pre-arranged alternative system, which should be no less than Shariah," tribal elder Malik Behram Khan told the Daily Times by phone from WANA.
He said the jirga had decided that only Sharia law is an acceptable alternative, if the government was bent on removing the FCR.
Analysts said that Gillani's announcement of withdrawing the FCR had been made in haste.
Behram has however said amendments to the FCR are acceptable.
