President Pervez Musharraf has assured Pakistan Muslim League (Qaumi) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that the party would be taken into confidence before a final decision is made on the dialogue with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Lahore, Sep 5 : President Pervez Musharraf has assured Pakistan Muslim League (Qaumi) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that the party would be taken into confidence before a final decision is made on the dialogue with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Geo News quoted sources as saying that a high-level meeting chaired by Musharraf was held at his Rawalpindi camp office in which Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Hussain and Constitutional advisers to the president participated.
They discussed various issues, including Musharraf's re-election from the present assemblies, the upcoming general elections and Nawaz Sharif's return.
Hussain reiterated his concerns over the government's talks with Bhutto, and said that the PML-Q would lose a lot in the general elections in case of any deal.
Sources quoted Musharraf as saying that the ruling party and all government allies would be taken into confidence before taking a final decision on the deal with Bhutto.
Shujaat also asked Musharraf's top aide Tariq Aziz not to attempt a deal with the PPP at PML-Q's cost, Geo News reported.
Hussain called Aziz and said that negotiations with Bhutto must be done, but not at his "political cost".
