The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Qaumi) has warned its parliamentarians and provincial assembly members to vote for President Pervez Musharraf or forget about getting a party ticket for the general elections, a private TV channel has reported.
Lahore, Sep 27 : The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Qaumi) has warned its parliamentarians and provincial assembly members to "vote for President Pervez Musharraf or forget about getting a party ticket for the general elections", a private TV channel has reported.
The ruling coalition is not worried about Musharraf being re-elected through a simple majority, but is keen to avoid disunity within its ranks on the matter.
Several ruling coalition members are reluctant to vote for Musharraf, and since the voting would be held through secret ballot, Musharraf and the PML-Q leadership are worried about the results, the channel claimed.
Senator Tariq Azeem said that anyone who voted against the party decision would not be considered for a party ticket in the upcoming general elections, the Daily Times reported.
The channel reported that Musharraf has instructed the PML-Q leadership to ensure that all of its parliamentarians are present in the assembly building on October 6, while similar instructions have been issued to the provincial Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz today filed the nomination papers of President Pervez Musharraf for the October 6 presidential elections at the Election Commission.
Aziz, Pakistan Muslim League (PML) president Shujaat Hussain, the Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, along with the proposers and the seconders of the President, submitted the papers on behalf of Musharraf.
