Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former cricketer Imran Khan has said that en bloc resignations prior to the re-election of President Pervez Musharraf would make it clear as to who is the real opposition and who is friendly fire.
Islamabad, Sept. 25 : Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former cricketer Imran Khan has said that en bloc resignations prior to the re-election of President Pervez Musharraf would make it clear as to who is the 'real opposition' and who is 'friendly fire'.
"People are not coming out to the streets because there is no real opposition before them. They are not seeing a united and real opposition," Khan said.
Replying to a question, without mentioning the name of MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said that something is being cooked up with the government about resignations.
"The resignations would draw a line between real and friendly opposition," he added.
"Musharraf's re-election would be illegal and unconstitutional, yet the US is backing him (Musharraf)," Khan said.
Khan strongly condemned the arrests and harassment of political leaders and workers, and claimed that the Musharraf regime is giving a message to the judiciary by creating a panic situation in the country.
The government is using illegal tactics to stop the resignations of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) members from present assemblies, he claimed.
"If Musharraf gets himself re-elected as President, the APDM would not accept him at any cost," The Nation quoted Khan, as saying.
Khan alleged that the US is backing Musharraf, because he is an agent of America who is using the Pakistan Army against its own people.
He said the Opposition would support the candidature Wajihud Din.
